Bradley " Brad" Mussman Obituary

Bradley Joachim Mussman, 63, of Red Wing, MN, a former Stewartville, MN, resident passed away unexpectedly from an apparent cardiac arrest on Monday (July 28, 2025) at his home in Red Wing, only two days after the death of his mother, Pat, whom he adored.

Bradley Mussman was born on January 27, 1962, in Rochester, MN, to Don and Pat (Joachim) Mussman. Brad was the second oldest of five children and the only son. The family later moved to Stewartville where Brad graduated in 1980 from Stewartville HS.  He attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin/LaCrosse majoring in Political Science. After college he joined the U.S. Army, serving two years, and was stationed in Germany. Brad then went on to receive his Doctorate degree in International Relations at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. While living on the East coast he enjoyed his summers working at the New York Yacht Club.

During his years of employment, he worked briefly for IBM in Rochester, MN. He then moved to China where he taught International Trade and English at universities and private schools. He grew to love the Chinese people and culture, even falling in love and getting married while there. In 1998, the couple moved to Irvington, NY but were later divorced.  While living in New York, Brad was employed by both Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank on Wall Street. While at Deutsche Bank he held the position of Vice President of Global Markets Research. Brad returned several times to China to continue teaching at various universities. Brad’s latest employment was with the Army Corps of Engineers in Red Wing, MN, working at the lock and dam on the Mississippi River. Brad greatly enjoyed working with his fellow coworkers and visiting with the boaters as they came through the lock.

Brad traveled extensively, both abroad and in the US; taking many road trips in his beloved 1999 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer, handed down from his dad, that accrued 230,000 miles. He loved hunting with his dad, uncle and cousin and loved time spent with his family. He was an avid reader and was a frequent visitor at the Red Wing Library. Brad never asked for much, and lived a simple life, yet gave to all and had a huge heart.

Brad is survived by his father Don, and four siblings: Lynn (Mark) Root of Tucson, AZ; Lisa (Jeff) Kasher of Boulder, CO; Jill (Toufik) Halimi of Minnetonka, MN and Jody (Steven) Kilpatrick of Madison, WI, along with nine nieces and nephews and two great nieces and 1 great nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother Frances “Pat” Mussman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday (August 22, 2025) at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
