Carol Hermanson Obituary

The Memorial Service for Carol M. Hermanson, 87, of Stewartville,MN will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday (June 8, 2024) at the Stewartville United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Nordstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning  Mrs. Hermanson died on Friday, December 8, 2023, of natural causes at Shorewood Senior Campus in Rochester, where she had been a resident since 2021.

Carol May Whipple was born on December 5, 1936, in Red Wing, MN, to Ray and Frances (Bentley) Whipple. She grew up in the Pierce County, WI, and Mazeppa, MN areas, where she attended country schools before moving with her family to Rochester in 1950. There, she attended Rochester High School, graduating in 1954. She earned a photograph retouching and colorist certification at the Jean Kroeger Photography Studio in St. Paul and then returned to Rochester. Carol was married on January 25, 1959, to Arthur G. Hermanson (Art) at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Kasson, MN, where Carol was employed in Rochester at Newman Kraft Photography Studio, Massey’s Department Store, and Cutshall’s
Photography Studio. They moved to Stewartville in 1967, where Art was employed as an LP gas plant manager for Greenway Co-op. They raised their two sons and lived in Stewartville for many years. Until her retirement in 1999, Carol was a church secretary at Stewartville United Methodist Church, Homestead Church in Rochester, and the medical records department at Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center in Rochester. Art and Carol moved to Dexter, MN, where they owned and managed Pleasant Acres, their small mobile home park, for several years before returning to Stewartville in 2014.

Carol was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Stewartville and the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star – Stewartville Lodge No. 203. Art and Carol were involved with their sons’ Cub Scout and Boy Scout activities and enjoyed camping and family vacations while their boys were growing up. Later, they continued to travel, especially enjoying trips to Alaska and the UK. Throughout her life, Carol enjoyed painting, reading, going to movies, caring for her many generations of dogs, including Rover, Rex, Rusty, Chaz, and Copper, bird watching, and collecting dog figurines. She enjoyed visiting with friends and loved spending time with her family, especially enjoying her grandchildren's sporting and school activities.

Carol is survived by two sons – Garth (Carol) of Chicago, IL and Lane (Anita) of Rochester; four grandchildren – Ushus Hermanson, Arielle, Garrett, and Owen Hermanson; two sisters – Sharon (Dale) Quandt of Wirt, MN, and Beth (Phil) Thompson of Deer River, MN, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; parents, Frances and Ray Whipple; stepfather, Logan Bell; two infant sisters – Elaine Whipple and Donnaray Whipple; and brother, Donald Whipple. Hospice for their care.
