Douglas “Doug” Ferguson, 81, of Stewartville, MN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Duane Douglas Ferguson was born on May 25, 1944, to George and Mildred (Fischer) Ferguson in Dodge Center,MN. The youngest of six siblings, he grew up in rural Dodge Center, Wasioja, and Kasson-Mantorville area, where he met Jeanne Houseman, the love of his life and wife of 59 years. He attended Dodge Center HS graduating in 1962. He joined the US Army National Guard serving while also attending Mankato State University for 3 years, studying computer programming. Doug was employed for 35 years at IBM in Rochester as a programmer and manager and continued as a contractor for several more years. Jeanne was a homemaker and was employed as a secretary at the Stewartville United Methodist Church for 14 years and was also employed at IBM in Rochester.
Doug's life centered around his family. He dedicated himself to providing for them and helping them create lasting traditions and family values that will carry on.
Family was everything to Doug. He cherished taking care of them and spending quality time together. He loved camping, fishing, grilling, and hosting large holiday gatherings at his home on 5th Ave SE, where he and Jean resided for 54 years before moving to a townhome in Stewartville.
Doug is survived by his wife, Jean; his son Joel (Kim) Ferguson of Mantorville; his son Aaron (Missy) Ferguson of Lake City; his daughter LeaAnn (Jack) Underwood of Racine; his sister, Robin Orth of Austin; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday ( August 4, 2025) at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating. Burial and a committal service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson,MN will follow a lunch. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray FH in Stewartville.
