Georgia M. Barber

Georgia M. Barber, 86, a longtime Stewartville,MN resident passed away peacefully in her new home at the Spring Valley Care Center in Spring Valley,MN on Friday (July 26, 2024) from various health issues.

Georgia Marie King was born on August 19, 1937  in Spring Valley,MN to George and Linda ( MaKowski ) King. She grew up on the family farm in rural Spring Valley, attended country school and Spring Valley schools, graduating from Spring Valley HS in 1955. She was employed as a waitress in Spring Valley for a few years. Georgia was married on July 16th 1961 in Spring Valley to Martin O. Barber. Following their marriage the couple lived in Spring Valley and Rochester before moving to Stewartville in 1964 where they raised their children and continued to make their home. Georgia was a homemaker and was employed at the Fish House Restaurant in Stewartville and then with Jimmy’s Dressings for nearly 50 years and would still be working if her health had allowed! Martin was a heavy equipment mechanic for many years with dealerships in the Rochester area. Mr. Barber died on June 2, 1992. Georgia was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. She enjoyed crosswords and wordsearch puzzles, knitting and crocheting, reading and was a MN Vikings fan. Georgia looked forward to time spent with her Jimmys work friends and time with her loving family, especially Jeannie.                   

Georgia is survived by her daughter Jean of Stewartville and her son Charles(Monika) of Blessenbach, Germany; her grandson and great grandchildren – Eddie(Nadine) Barber and their children – John and Mila of Blessenbach. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, her parents, her sister – Donna Bjostad, 2 brothers – Gordon King, Russell King and their niece and foster daughter - Diane Barber.                                                                               

The funeral service for Georgia will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday (July 30, 2024) at Zion Lutheran Chucrh in Stewartville with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held 1 hr. prior to the service at the church. Burial and a committal service will take place at Hamilton Cemetery in Racine, MN.  A live stream of the service will be available by going to the Zion Lutheran Church website on Tuesday morning.
