Joann Marie (Schlotfelt) Campbell, 96, passed away on January 19, 2026, in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born on May 11, 1929, and was raised in Vinton, Iowa, where she spent her childhood.
In 1954, Joann met Wayne Campbell, the love of her life, and they were married that August. Together they welcomed four sons—Scott Campbell, Duncan (Tracey) Campbell, Bruce Campbell, and Stuart (Heidi) Campbell—all the immense pride of her life.
Before marriage, Joann worked as an accountant at a lumber company and as a telephone operator in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For twenty years, Joann and Wayne lived a life of adventure as Wayne served in the U.S. Army, with their family living in Germany, Spain, and England.
After Wayne’s retirement, they settled in Cedar Rapids for sixteen years before retiring to Florida. A devoted Christian, Joann spent countless hours volunteering at her church, offering her time, care, and steady spirit to her faith community.
Joann will be remembered not only for her strength and devotion, but also for her quick wit, humor, and wonderfully sharp sense of fun. She had a gift for delivering a clever line at just the right moment, and her playful outlook brought laughter wherever she went. Whether teasing her sons, joking with friends, or sharing stories over coffee, she connected deeply with others through her warmth and humor.
She was also an avid bowler, participating in a ladies’ league and bowling several times a week and was also a lifelong blood donor.
Joann is survived by her sons Bruce and Stuart; her five grandchildren—Jared (Ellie) Campbell, Claudia Bell, Connor Campbell, Natalie Campbell, and Bruce Campbell; and many beloved extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, John and Pearl (Gillam) Schlotfelt, her sons Scott and Duncan, and her ten siblings.
Joann’s life was long, rich, and marked by resilience, devotion, faith, and a wonderful sense of humor that brightened every room. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL alongside her husband.
