Kimberly “ Kim” Stankey, 64 of Rochester, MN died on Monday (January 5, 2026) at her home following an illness with cancer.
Kimberly Sue Stankey was born on August 10, 1961 in Rochester,MN to John and Nancy(Ostby) Stankey. She grew up in Rochester and attended and graduated from Mayo HS in 1979. Kim was employed as a waitress most of her life, many of those years at John Hardeys BBQ North in Rochester. She had recently retired from the Rochester Public Schools where she worked in their cafeterias for a number of years. Kim was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, playing games on her computer and was a league bowler at Tropic Lanes in Rochester and Stewartville Lanes. Kim loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Kim is survived by her children - Jesse Stankey of Kasson,MN;, Heather Scanlan (Dustin Meyer) of Owatonna,MN; Jeremy Volkart of Spring Valley,MN and Brian Stankey of Rochester; 7 grandchildren - Isabelle (Ryan) Ochocki, Ashton Stankey, Adrianna, Abigail, and Gabrial Scanlan, Aubrey Volkart, and McKayla Stankey, her great granddaughter – Mckynlee Ochocki and a great grandson arriving in July; her sister and 2 brothers - Kathy Leloux of Livingston,TX; Kevin Stankey of Pine Island,MN and Kenneth Stankey of Rochester and many nieces and nephews. Kim was preceded in death by her parents.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) from 5 to 7:00 PM. Please feel free to wear your favorite MN Vikings apparel! Burial and a committal service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday (January 15, 2026) at First Lutheran Cemetery in Blooming Prairie,MN. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray FH in Stewartville.
