Mary J. Waugh , 74, of Dexter,MN formerly of Stewartville,MN passed away on Friday (August 8, 2025), following a short illness with cancer, at Zumbrota Health Services in Zumbrota,MN, where she had been a resident for one month.
Mary Jean Martin was born on February 6, 1951 in Fairfield,IA to Donald and Janet (Prefke) Martin. She grew up in Fairfield, attended schools there, graduating from Fairfield HS in 1969. Mary was married in 1980 in Fairfield,IA to Arthur “Dale” Waugh. The couple lived in Iowa and Illinois before moving to Stewartville in 1989. Mary was a homemaker and was employed as a CNA at Mayo Clinic – Rochester – St. Marys Campus for over 20 years until her retirement. Dale drove semi for more than 30 years until his retirement. Mr. Waugh died on March 31, 2008. Mary moved to Dexter to live with her son Sean and has continued to make her home there. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, and taking care of her beloved companion dog Smokey. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandsons.
Mary is survived by 2 sons – Mike Waugh (Ruth Staples) of Parumph,NV and Sean Waugh( Shianne Dahle) of rural Hayfield,MN; 3 grandchildren – Cody Waugh(Taylor Cureton), Kyle (Brittany) Waugh – 2 great grandsons - Brantley and Gannon and Tiffany(Dominick) Stahl; 1 brother – Donald(Joanne) Martin Jr. of Fairfield,IA; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband – Dale , grandson -Adam Waugh, her parents and sister – Sandy Martin.
