Michael R. McCormack

Michael “Mike ” McCormack, 72, a longtime Stewartville,MN, resident, died on Thursday (January 22, 2026) at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Marys Campus following a long illness with chronic diabetes.

Michael Roy McCormack was born on September 29, 1953 in Ft. Dodge,IA to John and Dorothy(Cade) McCormack. He grew up in Ft. Dodge, attended school there before moving with his family to Austin,Mn as an 8th grader. He graduated from Austin Pacelli HS. He attended Austin Vo-Tech prior to being employed with the MN State Patrol in Rochester, as a dispatcher. Michael was
married on April 19, 1975 in Charles City, IA at St. Johns Lutheran Church to Betty J. Mehmen. The couple lived in Rochester and Austin for a short time before moving to Stewartville in 1984 where they raised their son and have continued to make their home. Mike was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 9 and eventually it led to the loss of his eye sight. He became a stay at home
Dad for his son Roy. Betty was employed for 37 years at Mayo Clinic Rochester within their pharmacy department in many different capacities until her retirement. Mike was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville and also had belonged to the Stewartville Lions, Stewartville Sportsman Club and volunteered with RADAR golf tournament fundraisers. Mike was an avid golfer, something he shared with his son Roy. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, was a hockey fan of the MN Gophers and the Wild, and followed the Twins and Vikings. Mike liked to visit with friends, neighbors (and strangers) and loved time spent with his large family, especially his grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years – Betty and their son – Roy(Angela) and 3 grandchildren – Samantha, Jonathan and Natalie all of Big Lake,MN; his mother – Dorothy McCormack of Austin,MN; 4 sisters and 4 brothers - Steve McCormack of Brooklyn Park,MN; Michelle (Lance Jacobs) McCormack of Regent, ND; Mary Beth McCormack of Austin,MN; Kelley (Fred) Limberg III
of Bella Vista, AR; Patrick(Lisa) McCormack of Edina,MN; Dennis(Myrleen) McCormack of Austin,MN; David McCormack of Aitkin,MN and Theresa(Greg) Jacobs of Aitkin, MN and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father – John and 2 sisters – Kathleen Thompson and Colleen McCormack.
