Pat Hurley Obituary

Pat Hurley, 90, a longtime Stewartville, MN area farmer, passed away on Thursday (September 11, 2025) of natural causes, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.

Pat Hurley was born on July 7, 1935, in Varina, IA, to William and Geraldine (Lilly) Hurley. He grew up in Adams, MN, on the family farm, graduating from Adams H S in 1953. He worked at Josten’s in Owatonna,MN before moving to Rochester,MN in 1959 where he was employed at IBM. Patrick was married on September 29, 1956, in Chester, IA, to Dorothy M. Granahan.  The couple lived in Rochester before moving to the Hurley Family farm in rural Stewartville in 1969, where they farmed, raised their family and lived for many years. Dorothy was a homemaker and farmwife and was employed at Farmers Insurance Co. in Rochester for a number of years. After retirement Pat worked at Plainview Milk Products as a fieldman and also drove school bus for Prokasky and Grisim Bus Companies in Stewartville. Pat and Dorothy moved into Stewartville in 2023, where they have continued to make their home.

Pat was a longtime active member of St. Bernards Catholic Church where he served as an usher, a member of the mens club and was on the Church Council. Pat and his family were involved with 4-H activities for over 50 years. He spent 20 years on the Olmsted County Fairboard  and multiple years as Fairboard President. Pat was on the Stewartville Tigers football chain gang for 20 years, coached 4-H softball, and played slow-pitch softball with his sons and friends when he was 59 years old. He was an avid Twins and Vikings sports fan and followed all of his kids Stewartville HS sports and activities. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pat is survived by his wife of 69 years – Dorothy;  4 daughters and 5 sons – Dan (Barb) Hurley, Jo Redman, Bill Hurley, Scott (Terri) Hurley, Tom (Lisa) Hurley, Jim (Theresa) Hurley, Lori(Jerry) Schultz , Kari (Kevin) Koenigs and Colleen Skare; 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren enlightened his world. Pat is survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother; Betty Jo Riddell, Kate LeBarron, Rosemary (Tom) Buske and Bernie Hurley.  He was preceded in death by his son – Michael, his parents and sister, Mary Ann Ellstrom.                                                   

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery in Stewartville. A time of visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 16, at St. Bernards Church and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning.
