Richard J. Sattre, 78 years old of Red Wing, MN died on Thursday May 29 2025 from complications of chronic lung disease at Mayo Clinic - St. Mary's Campus.
Richard Jay Sattre was born October 17, 1946, in Rochester, MN to Donald and Iva (Runkle) Sattre. He grew up on the family farm and attended Stewartville schools, graduating from Stewartville High School in 1964. He attended vocational school to study culinary arts and was employed as a cook at the Rochester State Hospital, until its closing in 1982. He then moved to Red Wing, MN, where he made his home for the past 43 years, where he was employed at the Red Wing Training School for Boys and Girls until his retirement.
He was a past member of East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, where he was baptized and confirmed. Rich was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and camping in Buffalo City, WI. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed camping at Peck’s Campground for the past 15 years, spending endless hours on the Mississippi River, or catching the “big one” on Lake Superior. He loved riding his ATV through the hills of Wisconsin with his buddies and enjoyed traveling and time spent with his family.
Richard is survived by his sister, Judy (Mark) Zuleger of Medford,WI and his youngest brother, Mark (Darcy) Sattre of rural Stewartville, MN. His nieces and nephews are Ryan (Michelle) Boller, Jenna (Shane) Hanson, Andy (Kinjal) Sattre, Paul Sattre and Daniel Sattre. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older infant brother.
A Celebration of Life witha time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, (June 7, 2025) at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. The interment will follow at East St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Dell, Mn. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
