Roy L. Fritz

The funeral service for Roy L. Fritz, 85, of Stewartville, MN will be on Monday (December 30, 2024) at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Stewartville American Legion Post 164 will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, MN. Roy died peacefully at his home on Friday (December 20, 2024) from natural causes.

Roy Leonard Fritz was born on December 11, 1939 on the home farm in Lewiston, MN to Paul and Gertrude (Tews) Fritz. He grew up in rural Lewiston, MN before moving with his family to the Byron, MN area, where he attended Byron HS, graduating in 1957. He entered the US Army serving 4 years including duty overseas in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he returned to SE MN and was employed at Crenlo Corp. in Rochester. Roy was employed at IBM in Rochester for 35 years until his retirement. Roy was married on April 27,1963 at the Wanamingo Lutheran Church to Sandra E. Lexvold.  Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester before moving to rural Stewartville in 1974, where they raised their family. They moved to High Forest in 1987, where they continued to make their home. Sandra Fritz died on January 6, 2020. Roy was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville and was a 45 yr. active member of the Stewartville American Legion Post 164 and and a longtime member of the Driftskippers Snowmobile Club in Stewartville. Following their retirement Roy and Sandra enjoyed traveling, often going on fishing trips up north. They played bingo on Wednesday nights at the Legion and enjoyed its steak frys and Monday burger nights. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman, snowmobiled and bowled and was a Vikings and Twins fan. Most of all he loved family get-togethers, celebrations, playing cards and time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Roy is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter -  David(Sherri) of Rochester; Bradley(DeeAnn) of Stewartville and Michelle Berning(Dave Schick) of Eyota; 8 grandchildren – Seth(Lacey) Berning, Brooke(Jerome) Ferson, Britni(Tony) Anderson, Luke Berning(Sam Phan), Derek Fritz(Luke Dieser), Nicole(Tyler) Otteson, Ryan(Samantha) Fritz and Aleese Holst(Dylan Gowlland); 8 great-grandchildren – Leeland and Alexi, Brielle and Jack, Tylan, Bowen and Mylo and Ezra; 2 brothers – Kenneth(Shirley) Fritz of Rochester and Hilbert(Judy) Fritz of Baldwin, WI and many nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his wife – Sandra, his parents, 1 sister – Loretta Tointon and 2 brothers – Elmer Fritz and Victor Fritz.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday (December 29, 2024) at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday (December 30, 2024) morning.  Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
