Virgil R. Clark Obituary

Virgil R. Clark, 86, of Stewartville, MN, died on Sunday (January 26, 2025) from complications of an apparent heart attack, at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Mary’s Campus.

Virgil was born June 29, 1938 in Baltimore, MD to Everett and Martha (Fiscus) Clark. He moved with his family to Kansas City, KS where he graduated from Argentine H.S. in 1956. After completing his certification for radio and television engineering at a technical college in Kansas City, KS, he was employed in Dodge City, KS where he met and married Nancy C. Ochs. After being drafted, Virgil and Nancy were stationed in Williamsburg, VA where he served 2 years in the Army. They returned to Kansas City, where Virgil attended University of Kansas receiving a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After graduating they moved to Rochester, MN where Virgil began his 35 year career at IBM and then moved to Stewartville in 1968. His wife Nancy passed away on September 11, 1991 from cancer. Virgil continued to live and raise his children in Stewartville. He married Margaret A. Bowman on July 18, 2003 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Rochester.

Virgil was a longtime dedicated member of First Church of the Nazarene (Life Bridge Nazarene Church) in Rochester where he served as Treasurer and on the board for several years. He was a 30+ year member of the Rochester Male Chorus and was a longtime Super-fan of the Stewartville H.S. Volleyball team where he volunteered as the director of the Junior Olympics program. He also loved following the Minnesota Vikings as well as the Kansas City Chiefs and the KU basketball program. He was n avid Elvis fan, enjoyed Sudoku puzzles and caring for their cats. Virgil enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Virgil was survived by his wife – Margaret; daughter Cathi(Rob) Stark of Prosper, TX; sons Curtis(Jean) Clark of Carrollton, TX and Christopher Clark of Stewartville; step-daughter Lori Reynolds (Scott Hinrichs) of Prescott Valley, AZ; step-son – Mike Bowman of Raytown, MO; 9 grandchildren - Colin Clark, Kristina(Jon) Morrison, Alex, Cory, Kyle and Ella Stark, Mauro(Michelle) Rodriguez, Cody(Jennifer) Rodriguez, Kayla(Tomas) Rodriguez and 9 great-grandchildren - Hector Fonseca, Evangeline Morrison, Cohen Reynolds, Amali, Mauro, Aster, Gabriel, Beau Rodriguez and Javier Viollareal. He was preceded in death by his parents - Everett and Martha Clark, brother - Kenneth Clark and step-grandson - Alex Reynolds.

The funeral service for Virgil will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday (February 3, 2025) at Life Bridge Nazarene Church in Rochester, MN with Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Stewartville American Legion Post 164 will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville on Monday afternoon at about 2 pm. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 3-5 pm on Sunday (February 2, 2025) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the service on Monday morning. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville. The family requests memorials be sent to the Life Bridge Nazarene Church (www.lifebridgenaz.org) and the Rochester Male Chorus (www.givemn.org/organization/Rochester-Male-Chorus).
